Win A New Yars’ Revenge, New E.T. Or A New 2600 Joystick In Our First Contest!
By Doctor Octagon on June 24, 2014
SCORE! We’ve announced our first contest! It’s a high-score competition with three prizes up for grabs: a sealed copy of Yars’ Revenge, a sealed copy of E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, both complete with a crystal clear box protector, and a third bonus prize – a new 2600-style Joystick!
The contest is pretty simple. Post the Highest Score in Yars’ Revenge to win the sealed copy of Yars. Post the High Score in E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial to win the sealed copy of E.T. Post the highest combined score of both games to win the 2600-style Joystick. (Details are available on the contest page linked below.)
Our first contest celebrates the works of legendary Atari programmer Howard Scott Warshaw. (The First Annual Howard Scott Warshaw Day is set for July 30th, HSW’s birthday.) If you’re unfamiliar with Warshaw, he’s quite a fascinating dude. The one-time Atari programmer turned Silicon Valley Therapist, often referred to simply as “HSW”, comes across as somewhat of a renaissance man and raconteur, genuinely having earned the “legend” title. HSW has been responsible for some of the 2600’s most culturally significant titles including Yars’ Revenge, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, and Raiders Of The Lost Ark. An unfinished game, Saboteur, was released at Philly Classic 5 in 2004. It seems like there’s always a great backstory to be told about the creation of HSW’s games. Not to mention the quotes about Spielberg.
Yars’ Revenge is considered by some to be the 2600’s finest title, while E.T. has widely been panned as the worst. It’s because of this dramatic swing in reception that HSW has been able to claim the title as the 2600 programmer with the widest range.
The contest is now live and open through 9am PST Monday, August 4th, 2014. Check-it-out, check-it-outers:
And if you don’t win this time, don’t give up. This is only the first of many contests to come!
