Power Drive Rally on The Jag Bar
Hey what’s up everybody welcome back to The Jag Bar! Joining me at the Jag Bar today is my brother Evan, and we’re excited because we’re taking a look at one of my favorite games, definitely one of my Top 5 all-time favorite games for Atari Jaguar, the one and only Power Drive Rally!
My brother Evan rates this as his #1 top game for the Jaguar. Evan loves Super Burnout, but found the levels in Power Drive Rally to be more intricate and the details more laid out. From the perspective of playability, he thought Power Drive Rally has stood the test of time as the best game released for the Atari Jaguar. The graphics are good, it’s fun, right away you like it, the game sucks you in, and it still holds up today.
If this game was on an iPad app you’d still be able to play it today and you wouldn’t know that it was made more than 15 years ago. Road races, special courses, parking, avoiding cones, the game has it all really.
PUTTING THE PIECES BACK TOGETHER AGAIN
Power Drive Rally was developed for the Atari Jaguar by Time Warner Interactive, which is a direct remnant of the original Atari, Inc.
In 1984, in the wake of the video game crash, Warner Communications split up Atari, Inc. and sold Atari’s Home Consumer Division (consoles and computers) to Commodore founder Jack Tramiel. Warner retained Atari’s arcade division under the name Atari Games Corporation which created awesome arcade games like Gauntlet, Paperboy, Marble Madness, and others. The arcade division was renamed Time Warner Interactive from 1993 to 1996, was renamed back to Atari Games Corporation from 1996 to 1998, and finally became Midway Games West, Inc. in 1998 before closing for good in 2003.
This makes Power Drive Rally a really special game, in that it was one product from Atari’s two halves that broke apart in the video game crash a decade earlier. For a moment Power Drive Rally kind of put the pieces of Atari back together again, and the game was really a lot of fun to play.
So if you are looking for games to get for the Atari Jaguar I highly recommend Power Drive Rally. Get the game. It’s fun. It still plays great today. It looks great and it’s not exorbitantly expensive to pick up. Power Drive Rally is a must own game, you don’t want to miss this one.
The brothers are back and playing one of the best racing games on the Atari Jaguar. Let’s check out today’s episode of The Jag Bar:
